“But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple.”  Psalm 5:7.  The previous verses in Psalm 5 were talking about how God does not take pleasure in wickedness, and how sin cannot be with Him.  Then David writes this verse.  He did not write, “but I, by my righteousness” or even, “but I, because of my perfection,”  David wrote, “but I, by your great love.”  We cannot be near God without His forgiveness.  There is no way we could get to heaven on our own, because of our sin.  But God, sent His Son Jesus to take our punishment so that we could be redeemed.  We sin, daily, we who are God’s creation in His own image do the things that hurt Him most day and night.  We deserve punishment, but God Loves us so much, that He gave His only Son, His perfect Son, to die and rise again so that we could have eternal life.  If it weren’t for the, “but God” David could not have written this verse.  He would have been counted among sinners, as we all would be.  But God shows mercy, so that we can all come to Him if we will ask Him for forgiveness and repent of our sins.  God also gives us grace, not only does He forgive us, but He will welcome us into His house.  He will bring us to His table one day when we get to heaven.  I sin, but I, by His great Love will one day get to go to heaven.  I mess up, I screw up, but I, because of Jesus’ sacrifice, because of God’s mercy, by God’s grace, I’m forgiven, redeemed, the adoption papers are signed.  I am a child of God, by His great Love, as are all who confess that Jesus is Lord.  It is our job to proclaim the good news of Christ to everyone else so that they too may believe in Christ and be saved.  God Bless!
