It is good for people to have goals, it gives us something to work for and achieving that goal is a prize in and of itself. One goal that I have is to lose weight and reach a certain amount by my birthday in a month or so. I told Mom, “I need you to help me with this, to do what it takes to reach this amount of weight in that time.” Often times our goals involve working with others. It is good to have someone that can serve as an accountability partner. Most of all, we have to rely on God. It is by His grace that we can have goals to begin with, and we need to rely on Him to give us the strength that we need in order to fulfill our goals. God will also guide us to follow His will as we work towards our goals. As we mature in Christ our goals can and will change, for example, your goal may be to read one chapter everyday, then your goal may be to read two chapters, then to start making notes instead of only highlighting what you’ve read in those two chapters, and so forth. It is good for goals to change if they are changing for the better. Whether it is physical health, or for spiritual growth; so that we will focus more on God and less on our own desires. His will is far better than anything we could imagine, which is why we should make goals that align with His will, such as studying more and praying more. “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9.
