One thing that God uses to encourage His children is laughter. Humor doesn’t have to be dirty to be funny. There doesn’t have to be cursing or anything of sexual nature for there to be humor. Carl Hurley is a Christian Comedian, and he talked about looking for the humor in church bulletins. Believe it or not, there can be humor because of the way things are written in a church bulletin. I remember he read something from a church bulletin that said, “Let us pray for those who are sick of our church and community” which should have been written this way, “Let us pray for the sick from our church and community.” He read one once that he thought someone may have been a little naughty when they wrote it, “The weight watcher’s group meets next Wednesday, they are asked to please use the double doors at the side entrance.” I remember he talked about looking for the humor that comes from little children, particularly when they write. He read a few of the children’s sentences from assignments that church sponsored schools had given them, for instance, one child wrote, “Joshua led the Hebrews in the battle of Geritol.” Another wrote, “Lot’s wife was a pillar of salt by day, but a ball of fire by night.” I know that sometimes I’ll have a little mishap, and I can usually laugh at it. This happens more than I’d like to admit sometimes, I can be walking into the woods to hunt, I’ll try to be quiet and not make any extra noise, but still, there will be that one doe or maybe a lonesome young buck that spots me. Then all of a sudden it will blow and run off raising that big white-tail before I get to see it. Aggravating though it may be, I’ve had it happen so many times that now I can just laugh and think, “Well, I done it again.” There is no use in letting myself get aggravated, being angry won’t bring those deer back, their curiosity might, but my frustration won’t do a thing for me. I try to just thank God that I got to see deer and thank Him for the laugh that got my mind off of school, or off of some emails that I’m expecting. One thing that I believe is that we cannot deny God the chance to give us a laugh. Sometimes we get too caught up in everything going on around us that we fail to see the beauty, the humor, and the joy that God provides. Christ came to give us life more abundant and to give us joy, He didn’t come to rob our joy, but to make it plentiful. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 ESV. Take the opportunity to laugh once in a while, and be grateful for it. God Bless!
