One of the books I am reading for school right now is “Unlocking the Scriptures” by Hans Finzel, in the book he talked about that we will reread the things that affect us most.  For example, we will reread the news or love letters.  We will reread new laws and bills that may be passed.  I’m going to go down a little bit different path than Finzel did, but, I would like to ask you a question.  How often do you reread the Bible?  For instance, when you read a chapter, do you ever go back to reread that chapter or certain verses that interested you, or do you simply continue into the next chapter just to say that you are “reading” the Bible.  I’d say most of us are guilty of reading just to read from time to time.  Yet, just like we reread things in the news or the weather, we need to reread passages over and over so that we can begin to understand more and more of that passage.  I’ve heard for most of my life that God can teach you something new every time you read the same verse.  One way He does that is by allowing us to catch something, we observe things when we read a passage again that we did not the first time.  These observations can spark questions that cause us to reference other verses and really try to study in order to grasp more of what that verse is saying.  This is one reason to reread, another is Scripture memorization.  We may not always remember the specific verse number, but we need to remember what the Word of God says.  We need to be able to hide God’s Word in our heart.  The better we know Scripture the better we can share Scripture, you can’t share what you don’t know.  So the more we take in Scripture, and actually try to grasp its meaning, the better off we will be and we can be more effective servants of God.  “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.”  Psalm 119:130.  God Bless!
